Born on November 3, 1942, in Woodbury, TN, to Reb Fisher Campbell, Sr., and Mattie Jane Davenport, Fisher grew up in Nashville and graduated from Central High School in 1960. He attended Belmont College, now Belmont University, for one year before transferring to Vanderbilt University where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in May 1965.
After graduating from Vanderbilt, Fisher started his first job at Brown Engineering in Huntsville, AL, where he worked on the Crawler-Transporters that carried NASA’s Saturn V and later the Space Shuttle to the launching pad. While living in Huntsville, he met and married Peggy Boyd from Minor Hill, TN, and they had their first child, Kelvin Scott Campbell. One year later, they returned to Nashville, where Fisher briefly worked with his father in the television installation business.
In 1968, Fisher moved his family to Athens, AL, where he began his career with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) working on the construction of Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. While in Athens, Fisher and Peggy had their second child, Seleta Kaye Campbell. Then in May 1976, he transferred to Chattanooga, TN, where he worked on the construction of Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and later moved to TVA’s downtown office complex where he worked until retirement in 2005.
After retiring, Fisher and Peggy traveled extensively visiting all 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii. He had a love for the outdoors as was evident in his favorite pastimes including hiking, backpacking, fishing, hunting, competitive shooting, bicycling, and especially motorcycle riding where he competed for many years as a member of the Southeastern Trail Riders Association. He and Peggy were members of Hixson First Baptist Church in Hixson, TN.
Fisher was also known for his tendency to tell stories often revealing his unique sense of humor. His favorite line was, “You’re going to miss me when I’m gone!” To which his family and friends responded saying, “Yeah, but not by much!” This always brought a smile to his face followed by him saying, “Well, I’m just tellin’ ya!” Little did we know just how very much we would miss him, but we take comfort in knowing that he is once again healthy and whole in his Heavenly home.
Fisher is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy; son Kelvin (Laurie), Oak Ridge; daughter Seleta (Tom), Knoxville; grandchildren Ian (Madison) and Emily Ogle; and great-granddaughter Marli Shea Campbell.
