He was preceded in death by a son, Craig E. Upton; grandson, Michael Garner; great grandson, Draven Fleming; mother, Mary Paralee Campbell Upton and father, Millard Buren Upton.
Robert was born in Bridgeport, Alabama, and graduated from Central High School. He served our country in the U. S. Air Force. Robert was a machinist at Chattanooga Tufters.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jo Ann McDurmin Upton; son, Robert L. Upton and wife Pam; grandchildren, Tony Upton and Brooke Shirley; sisters, Mary Harper and Nancy Gee; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 9, from 12 to 2 and 4 to 8 pm and Sunday, from 12 to 2 pm at the North Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, November 10, at the North Chapel.
Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
