
Ruby was born on April 10, 1919 in Winchester, Tennessee to the late William Dean (Will) and Mamie Emma Davis and moved to Chattanooga as a small child. She attended Central High School.
As a true entrepreneur, she started her first of many businesses at the age of 20 in 1939. Ruby owned and operated a clothing boutique and several beauty salons throughout her career. She was an inspiration to her family and employees with her strong work ethic and boundless energy. Her zest for life enhanced her love for travel with her friends to New York, Las Vegas, Hawaii and many other cities.
Ruby is survived by her children: Jeannine Alday of Chattanooga; Vance Austin of Chattanooga; Jana (Rick) Semple of Knoxville, Tennessee; Angie Clark of Bluffton, South Carolina; and Mitzi (Lorin) Johnston of Chattanooga. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Will and Mamie Davis and her son-in-law Mike Alday.
As a longtime resident of Stuart Heights she was a founding member of the Stuart Heights Community Pool and a member of St Luke United Methodist Church.
The family would like to express its gratitude to Barbara Fairweather who faithfully cared for Ruby in her last years of life and to the dedicated and kind staff at Summit View.
A private graveside service will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens on Hwy 153 at 4:00pm on Wednesday, July, 13, 2016. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church located at 3210 Social Circle, Chattanooga, Tennessee, 37415 and to the Chattanooga Alzheimer’s Association located at 7625 Hamilton Park Drive #22, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
