Retired Colonel Scott McReynolds Schoolfield

Retired Colonel Scott McReynolds Schoolfield passed away peacefully at his home on Signal Mountain, TN on June 29, 2021. He had just celebrated his 90th birthday on June 17, 2021. He was born in 1931 to the late Raulston and Julia (McReynolds) Schoolfield. He enjoyed life to the fullest! He loved his family, country, and serving in the United States Air Force. After high school he enlisted in the Air Force and in 1955 completed his pilot's training. He received many awards during his military career. He spent 24 years serving his country and retired as a Colonel in 1977. He often told us stories of his travels and his love for flying. He returned home to Chattanooga where he began another chapter in his life. He worked for Hamilton County starting at Chester Frost Park and ended up as the Administrator of Human Services overseeing five county departments. He worked for Hamilton County for 31 years. He loved both of his careers, but flying was his passion!

He was also preceded in death by his children’s mother, Rosemary Schoolfield, and his brother, Carter Schoolfield.

He is survived by his four children, Karen (Tim) Brown, Jennifer Schoolfield, Kevin (Cindy) Schoolfield, and Julie (Frank) Daniel. His eight grandchildren, Mindy (Shane) Ransom, Jonathan Duckett, Brian Duckett, Spencer Schoolfield, Hannah (Austin) Melton, Caroline Daniel, Jeremiah Daniel, Michelle (Jeff) Graham and four great grandchildren. His aunt, Martha Sue Brown, who celebrated her 100th birthday.

A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel. Interment will follow the service in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors. Family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, July 12, 2021 at the funeral home.
