Shirley was cherished for her quick smile, kindness, and generous hospitality toward others. She loved travel and gardening, and was particularly known for the lovely flower gardens she created over the decades for family and friends to enjoy. Her friends called her a Romantic; someone quick to see the beauty, whimsy, and opportunities for joy in this world. A compassionate person, Shirley strove to share her light and beauty with others, from dearest friends to passers-by.
She is survived by her children, Lisa and Terri Keown, and her grandchild, Avery Keown. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Keown, her parents Albert and Inez Chastain, and her beloved grandmother, Nora Dell Daffron, who raised her.
A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, July 10, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel.
Graveside services for Shirley will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. We will meet at the North Chapel on Saturday around 9:45 a.m. and go together to the services in the cemetery.
