Steve was a graduate of Winchester High School. Growing up on the family farm in Decherd, Tennessee, he learned early the steady value of work and the quiet strength of a life lived close to the land. Those years also shaped a deep appreciation for the outdoors, especially in the time he spent hunting and fishing.
In 1992, Steve took a bold step and started his own business with his brother, Herb, Triple "C" Torch and Regulator Repair. Through years of honest effort and perseverance, he built a reputation grounded in diligence and dependability—work done carefully, faithfully, and with pride.
Steve’s devotion was most evident in the way he valued time with those he loved. He cherished being with his family, and he carried that same steady commitment into the pursuits that brought him joy. A memorable highlight came in June of 2013, when Steve caught a 58-pound Black Buffalo Carp—earning both the World Record and the State of Tennessee record.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Stanford Coursey, Jr. and Annie Lee Ellis Coursey from Hixson; his sister, Ava C. Connelly; and his brother, Herb Ray Coursey.
Steve is survived by his nephew, Billy Ray Coursey; niece, Paige (Eric) Lyman; great nephew, Hayden Lyman; great nieces, Julianna and Annaliese Lyman; brother-in-law, Ron Connelly; sister-in-law, Debra Kilgore Coursey; and many cousins and friends.
Steve will be remembered with respect and gratitude—for a life marked by faithfulness, hard work, and devoted love of family, carried with quiet steadiness from beginning to end.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 (noon) until 3 pm on Monday, July 20, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Steve's life will follow at 3 pm on Monday at the North Chapel with Sam McNabb officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
