Theodore R Thurman

He went home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2021.

Ted was a 1948 graduate of Soddy Daisy High School where he was a member of the boxing team. He went on to join the United State Air Force in 1948 and proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring in 1968. He continued his education at UTC where he earned his Bachelors Degree, followed by a Masters Degree from Trevecca Nazarene University. He retired from teaching after 25 years in Chattanooga City Schools.

His favorite hobbies were woodworking, farming, golfing, reading, fishing, and hunting. His greatest joy was family, especially pouring love into his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was affectionally known as Gramps. He had the gift of generosity and making others laugh.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary J. Thurman; his parents Walter and Talma; siblings, Quentin, Hoyt, Cline, Christine, O’leta.

Survivors include his daughters, Leta Thurman, Cindy (Steve) Kerekes, Tina (Rob) Ware, Tammy Doub. Grandchildren;

Heather (John) Burgess, Stephaney (Nathan) Ballard, Travis (Melody) Markum, Sarah (Ben) Roseberry, Merideth (Trent) Arnold, Allison (Scott) Simmons, Emily Kerekes, Robby Ware, Katie Hope (Chad) Cunningham, John Andrew Doub, Patrick Doub; Great Grandchildren, John, Wesley, Kaylee, Faith, Jordan, Landon, Avery, Sam, Christian, Piper, Hayes, Saylor, and Knox; and special family Danny (Pat) Thurman, Jimmy (Jonelle) Thurman, Steve (Wanda) Markum, Kaitlyn Long, Ashton Sharea.

The family will receive friends from 11-1 PM, Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson TN.
