Thomas Albert Capps

Thomas Albert Capps, 86, passed away on July 11, following a brief illness. Born April 5, 1927, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Capps was born in Coulterville, TN, and lived most of his life in Red Bank, TN. He retired from Dupont in 1982. Mr. Capps attended Red Bank Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and in many other capacities over the years. His beautiful tenor voice was a blessing to many, singing with the Prime Time Singers and the Sanctuary Choir for many years. Mr. Capps loved great food, friends, travel, gardening, all animals, the Atlanta Braves, University of Tennessee football and MASH reruns. Most of all, he loved his sweet wife and was devoted to his family and faith.

The son of the late James and Mabel Capps, Thomas was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Mansell Capps, and his brothers Clayton, Clyde, Wallace and Glenn. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Capps, daughters Emily Capps and Teresa Headrick (J. David), grandchildren Brian Gooden (Stacy) and Amy Honeycutt, all of the Chattanooga area. Mr. Capps also has two great grandsons, many nieces and nephews, and a wonderful step family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Highway 153, Hixson, TN. Visitation is also Friday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Funeral services at 2:00 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bert Jones and Bill Harvey officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family is very grateful for the loving care Mr. Capps received at Erlanger Hospital and Hospice Care Center. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions in Mr. Capps’ name to the Red Bank Baptist Church Missions Fund, 4000 Dayton Boulevard, Chattanooga, TN, 37415.
