Thomas Alan Kennedy, 66, of Chattanooga died Monday, July 27. He was born August 30, 1953 to the late Arthur and Mary Kennedy of Scottsburg, Indiana. Tom was a beloved father to his three children, Theresa (Luis) Rodriguez, Bradley Kennedy, and Katy (Nathan) Holland. He was especially proud of his three granddaughters, Heidi Holland, Lola Rodriguez, and Harlow Holland; often showing pictures and videos of them to all his friends and family. He loved all of his family near and far and rarely missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Tom was a proud US Navy Veteran serving on the USS Patterson FF-1061 from 1972-1976. He retired from Porter Warner Industries in 2018 after 36 years but was often still found stopping by to help out with complicated jobs or just to chat. He will always be remembered for his intelligence, kindness, and love of music, especially the guitar. He was always willing to help a friend in need and he was found many a Tuesday night pickin’ with his guitar buddies. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he leaves behind his sister, Beth (Eddie) Buckel; brother, Kenneth (Nikki) Cowles; many nieces, nephews, and girlfriend Maria Dewees. A private family service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Like a ship that’s left its moorings And sails bravely out to sea, So someone dear has sailed away, In calm serenity; But there’s promise of a greater joy Than earth could have in store; For God has planned a richer life, Beyond the Unseen Shore.

I am saddened to learn that Tom has entered eternal life with our Lord. God blessed Tom and continues to bless him. I send my Christian love to Tom's family and pray that all of you feel God's warm embrace. Always know that Tom loved you and like our Lord Jesus Christ only wants what is best for you.
Tom was a good and faithful friend to me and did many things that were very helpful to me personally and to the congregation of Ascension Lutheran Church. God's peace and love to you.

I called Tom a friend and a brother. The world is a much sadder place without him. He was brilliant - and I do not use that word lightly - in so many ways. He was the most natural musician that I ever met. If he had heard a song, he could play it. I sat for hours watching him play guitar and sing, and he taught me much. We had many good times together and were looking forward to many more. I haven't cried for many years, but I cried tonight. My heart goes out to Theresa, Katie, Brad, the grandchildren, and extended family and friends. Neil

Tom was a Patterson brother of mine, enjoyed his guitar pickin. We did road trips when going on leave. Would drop and pick him up in Indiana. We were in "R" Division together. Glad I got to see & spend time with him at Patterson reunion in 2015.
