Timothy Randall Porter, 67, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on July 5, 2026, just three days before his 68th birthday. He was the son of Lorene Porter and Max Porter.
Tim was a Hixson High School graduate and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. He dedicated his career to this field, a profession he was deeply skilled in and proud of, before retiring in his later years. He found joy in carpentry and wood working as a hobby. He found healing in walking and hiking, especially in the great outdoors. An avid history enthusiast, he especially had a great affinity for the Civil War and would spend his free time studying, learning, and educating others about the tremendous battles that took place in the South and beyond. He loved relic hunting, vintage coin collecting, and buffalo sightings/memorabilia.
Those who knew Tim will remember him as the kindest and most caring person they ever met, always exuding a “go with the flow” attitude. He was a devoted father who would spend hours of hard-earned free time on his three kids’ extracurriculars during their younger/formative years. He was also a loving brother and son whose warmth touched everyone around him. His love, care, and selfless attitude never went unnoticed by those closest to him. He would get excited about small things and would often be heard saying, “Man, that is so cool,” typically in reference to new music and sports. He was a passionate Pearl Jam fan, a die-hard Oakland Raiders supporter, and could almost always be seen with a large to-go cup of unsweet tea, extra ice.
Tim is survived by his three children, Ashley (Ryan) Combest, Lauren (Jeremy) Hill, and Blake Porter; his mother Lorene Porter; his siblings Guerry (Jo) Porter, Kim (Mike) Higdon, and his brother-in-law Ken Keel; his grandkids, Avery Bates and Maverik Hill; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Max Porter and his sister Sherry Keel.
Visitation will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343, on August 1, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
A Family Graveside Service will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5351 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343, on August 1, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
Tim will be deeply missed, but his kindness, compassion, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
