He was born on November 14, 1969, in Jefferson City, Tennessee and lived in recent years in Winston Salem, North Carolina, having just moved back to Chattanooga, where he grew up.
Travis was a graduate of Hixson High School, Samford University, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
As a child of God, he loved people and never met a stranger, instantly engaging in conversations with everyone he met in life’s journey, from taxi drivers to sales clerks to the medical professionals who most recently treated him.
Kind and fun-loving, Travis had a heart for missions and for winning others to Christ. For several years he and his wife, Carissa served as missionaries in the Middle East. Living in Winston Salem, he worked in inner city missions through North American Mission Board and Waughtown Baptist Church. Travis believed that while providing food and clothing to those in need is necessary that the most important thing to give them is Jesus.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carissa; children, Elliot, Edie, Maggie, Audrey, and Isaac; parents, Jane and David Womack, and Gary and Barbara Joines; sister, Tanya (Adam) Smith; step- brothers, Shane Womack, Larry (Christy) Headla, Michael Headla; wife’s parents, Al and Karen Gilbert; many relatives and close friends.
Funeral services will be 3:00 Tuesday, September 18 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Al Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 Monday and from 2-3 on Tuesday.
