

Velma was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Horace Emmitt and Mamie Davis Huff on January 8, 1930.
Velma was retired from General Electric after over 40 years of service. She was involved for many years in the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. She was a gracious host, a wonderful cook, and hosted many holiday gatherings for the family and friends. Velma was a loving and giving wife , mother, sister, aunt and friend.
Velma was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church. She loved being a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William James ( Bill) Johnston and by her only son, William H. (Billy) Johnston; two brothers Ollen Huff and Jimmy Huff; sister Oneita Overdear; One Niece Debbie Nix.
Velma is survived by two sisters Wanda Weaver of Harrison, TN and Hazel (Don) Chauncey of Red Bank, TN; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 31 from 3-8 pm and Friday, November1, 2013 form 11 – 1 pm
Funeral services for Velma will be conducted at 1 pm on Friday, November 1, 2013 in the funeral home Chapel with Dr. Wayne Barber officiating. Pallbearers will be great nephews
Interment to follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens
In lieu of flowers, memorial contrubtions can be made in Velma name to Woodland Park Baptist Chuch, 6735 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga TN 37421
