Verdell Collins Rhoades, 83, of Hixson went to her heavenly home, Sunday, December 23, 2018. She was born December 20, 1935 in Jasper, Tennessee to the late James Frances and Sophia “Trecie” Collins. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Alvin E. Rhoades, infant brother, James Floyd Collins, sisters, Juanita Jordan, Imogene Casteel, and Bonnie Bell.
Ms. Rhoades lived most of her life in Hixson. She was of the Church of God faith. She loved gardening, flowers, and birds.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Kathy Lewis, Gail Sandlin, Teresa (Ed) Overholt, and Taye (Frankie) Uribe-Gama; brothers, James Frances Collins, Jr. and Lawrence T. (Rebecca) Collins; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of life will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, December 26 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-3 Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
