Volker Rake, 80, of Harrison died Sunday, August 14 at his home. Volker was born October 26, 1941 in Berlin, Germany to Karl Max Gerhard Rake and Erika Reinhardt Rake. At age 13, Volker came the United States for the first time with his mother, and loving stepfather, Robert Charles Brasher. He became a permanent resident at the age of 17 and went on to graduate from Central High School. At the age of 20, he met the love of his life June Hartline Rake and they married nine months later. Volker and June celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary, last week on August 11.
His father, Karl Max Gerhard Rake, mother, Erika Reinhardt Rake Brasher, and his second father Sgt. Bob Brasher, sister, Margaret Brasher, and a brother, Henry Ahee, preceded him in death.
He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Trenton, Georgia.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, June Rake, daughters, Monica (Larand) Spencer, Erika (Kenny) Sims, and Heidi (Brandon) Scott, grandchildren, Kody (Lynsey) Spencer, Garrett Sims, and Kelsi (Jordon) Bethune, seven great grandchildren, siblings, Barbara Bartel, Ute Schwalm, Bob (Veronica)Brasher, Ronnie (Miriam) Brasher, and Karl (Sue) Ahee.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Wednesday, August 17 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Jonathan Witt officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the North Chapel from 5-8 Tuesday evening.
