

Mr. Davies was born in Asheville, N.C., on September 24, 1928, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Wallace Davies. For three decades he was Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals for the Town of Signal Mountain, TN.
He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1952 and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. In 1955 he graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law where he was a member of Delta Theta Pi Legal Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Edwards Davies of Signal Mountain; a son, John McRoy Davies of Signal Mountain; daughters, Wallis Elizabeth Davies of Signal Mountain and Patricia Franklin Davies of Chattanooga.
He is also survived by his brother, Richard Blair Davies of Nashville, TN, formerly of Chattanooga, and his aunt, Virginia Albright of Greensboro, N.C., and several first cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Upon graduation from law school, he was a Lecturer in Commercial Law and Accounting at the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce. He was admitted to practice law in The Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Tennessee, and was a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Davies was a partner in the Stophel, Caldwell and Heggie law firm for 25 years and later a partner in the law firm of Miller and Martin. In 1989, he opened his own law office in Chattanooga and maintained an active practice until his retirement in 2010.
Mr. Davies was first listed in The Best Lawyers In America in 1989 in the category of employee benefits law and was listed every year, thereafter, until his retirement in 2010. He was a Delegate to the Internal Revenue Services Southeast Tax Liaison Committee beginning in 1987 and for many years afterwards.
Mr. Davies was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was twice President of the Tennessee Valley Orchid Society; a member of the Administrative Board of First Centenary United Methodist Church, and a member of the Board of Directors for YMCA Camp Ocoee and a member of the Mountain City Club. He most enjoyed his 35 years of service as a Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America.
He was a member of the Chattanooga and Tennessee Bar Associations, Chattanooga Estate Planning Council, the Southern Pension Conference, and Chattanooga Tax Practitioners.
Mr. Davies was an enthusiastic handball and racquetball player for much of his adult life. He also enjoyed running and was proud of the fact that he completed a half-marathon.

Memorial services will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 in the Kate Lyle West Chapel of First Centenary United Methodist Church. The Honorable Sam Payne (Circuit Court Judge, Retired) and the Rev. W. Edward Snodgrass will offficiate. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
