Wayne Bernard Smith

Wayne was a member of The Church of The Highlands (formerly Highland Park Baptist Church) where he had served as a deacon, usher, volunteered and served as a permanent welcomer with his beloved wife, Linda of 61 years. He loved serving the Lord.

Wayne was a resident of Soddy Daisy his entire life. He served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany serving in A Company 4th Platoon. After returning home he married the love of his life, Linda.

Wayne was employed at E.I. DuPont and had worked there 38 &1/2 years when he retired. While employed at DuPont he served as fire chief on A shift and served on the safety committee. When taking equipment out, he watched for safety in doing so. He did this plus doing his main job. Wayne also served as captain of the day crew on the Soddy Daisy Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years before stepping down.

He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and traveling with them. Wayne enjoyed traveling, deep sea fishing, golf and working in the yard.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Vernia Smith; brother, Victor Smith; and sisters, Charlotte Smith and Kay Valentine.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Smith; daughter, Paula (Richard) Beene; son, Anthony (Bridgett) Smith; grandchildren, Michelle (Adam) Orr, Christopher (Stacey) Beene, Thomas (Kimberly) Smith, and Amber Bowers; great grandchildren, Wyatt Beene, Jaxon Orr, Luke Orr, Raelynn Smith, Trevor Smith, Candis Carter, and Conner Bowers.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 26th from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel in Hixson. The funeral will be in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 PM Thursday with Pastor Scott McCurdy officiating. Chaplain Rick Knight will be singing. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens directly after the funeral service.
