William B. Tate, 76, of Hixson died Tuesday, December 22, 2015. He was born February 13, 1939 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Jesse Naul Tate, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Tate. He was preceded in death by brothers, Naul Jr. and Terry .
Bill earned his Master’s degree from Mississippi State University and went on to work as a research chemist with DuPont where he retired after 40 years of service at Chattanooga and Seaford, Delaware plants. He was an avid golfer and loved soccer, especially when his children or grandchildren were playing. He enjoyed college football, especially the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He was active in Boy Scouts of America throughout his life. He had recently researched and completed an ancestral history of the Tate Family. Bill was a devoted father and grandfather who split his time between Chattanooga and Destin, Florida, where he spent many days deep sea fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; sons, Bill (Stephanie), John (Amy), and Rick (Heather); grandchildren Bailey, Tyler, Lia, Conner , and Lucy; brothers, Ray and Gene; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, December 28 in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 Sunday evening.
