

William Harry “Chick” Gilbert, Jr., age 83, of Hixson, passed away Monday, March 07, 2011 in a local health care facility. He was born February 25, 1928 in Chattanooga to the late Ruth and William H. Gilbert, Sr.
He was a 1946 graduate of City High School.
Mr. Gilbert graduated from the University of Chattanooga where he was president of Lambda Chi Fraternity. During college he was associated with the YMCA youth activities and counselor at Camp Ocoee. After college he worked with his father at Gilbert Home Builders.
He was the president of Tennessee Juvenile Court Services Association, the Northside Civitan Club and was on the Board of Directors of the Half-Century Club. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ft. Oglethorpe and the Boys and Girls Club of Chattanooga. He coached boys and girls softball for over 40 years. Mr. Gilbert was the Director of Juvenile Court for 20 years and served with Family and Children’s Services.
He was a member of Hixson United Methodist Church since 1987.
He was preceded in death by his son Jim Gilbert.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Beverly Gilbert; daughter, Jean Dyer and her husband Mark; daughter-in-law, Patti Gilbert; grandchildren, Megan Dyer, Ryan Gilbert; Brandon Gilbert and Logan Gilbert; sister, Joyce Gilbert Davis.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Hixson United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Martin, Dr. John Bacon, and Rev. Paul Longmire officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the CLC Fellowship Hall.
