Bill was born and raised in Chattanooga, attended Chattanooga High School, was a graduate of Tennessee Tech, and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
In 1970, he and his young family moved to Birmingham, AL where they resided for the next 28 years. While in Birmingham, Bill was a longtime Boy Scout leader, serving as a trainer for the exclusive Wood Badge program. He received many honors, including the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to the Boy Scouts of America. He was a founding member of Christ Church United Methodist and retired from AT&T after 30 years of service as a member of The Telephone Pioneers of America.
In 1998, Bill and his wife returned to Chattanooga to enjoy retirement. He was an avid woodcarver, attending specialized woodcarving schools nationwide and in Europe, and was a proud member of the Chattanooga Woodcarvers Association.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Aileen Millard; sister, Patricia “Diane” Millard; and wife, Sherry Shelton Millard. He is survived by his brother and sister in law, Gregory and Carole Millard of Chattanooga; daughter, Marcie Millard of Atlanta; son and daughter in law, Brian and Lisa Millard of Chattanooga; and his four grandchildren: Avery, Will, Hannah, and Thomas Millard.
The family will have a small, private service and request that in lieu of cards or flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Atlanta based non-profit organization, Humorology Atlanta at www.humorologyatlanta.org.
