Abel Pena Ortiz

October 6, 1946 – July 3, 2025
Obituary of Abel Pena Ortiz
IN THE CARE OF

Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home & Forest Park Lawndale

Abel Peña Ortiz, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God, passed away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Houston, Texas, on October 6, 1946, to Inez and Phillip Ortiz Jr., Abel lived a life defined by love, service, and steadfast faith.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Bertha Ortiz, who stood by his side as his partner in life, love, and faith. Together, they built a strong and beautiful family, raising four children who were the pride of his life: Abel P. Ortiz II, James P. Ortiz, Angela Marie Ortiz James, and Thomas A. Ortiz. Abel's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Ryan James, Phillip James, Maximilian James, Xavier James, Elizabeth Ortiz, Vivian Ortiz, Sara Ortiz, and James P. Ortiz II.

Abel had a deep love for the outdoors. He found joy and peace in nature, especially through his passion for hunting—a pastime that brought him both solitude and connection with those he loved. An avid football player and fan, he didn't hesitate when asked to help work as co-founder in establishing the Magnolia Park Sharks Little League Football. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 10872, where he was honored to serve as Grand Knight. He also served as Texas State Council District Deputy. He served as a Sir Knight, dedicating his time and heart to service, brotherhood, and spiritual commitment.

Above all, Abel was a family man. He gave selflessly, always showing up for those in need, never asking for recognition. Whether offering guidance, lending a hand, or simply being present, his love was constant and unconditional. His strength, humility, and quiet wisdom shaped the lives of everyone around him.

Abel’s legacy is one of love, faith, and service. His memory will be forever treasured by those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Houston Area Parkinson Society, 2700 Southwest Fwy, Suite 300, Houston, TX 77098, in memory of Abel.
