Abel Y. Perez, age 78, passed away on August 23, 2025. He was born on September 18, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Alejandro and Herminia (Yslas) Perez. Abel was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
After graduating from Roy Miller High School Abel joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve, where he proudly served for eight years. Upon returning home, he worked as a machinist before following his dream of entrepreneurship. In 1975, he opened Abel’s Machining Service, beginning in his garage, later expanding to a warehouse, and ultimately purchasing property for his thriving business.
Abel met and married the love of his life, Rebecca “Becky” Perez, whom he affectionately called “My Sky.” Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage and raised one son, Abel Perez Jr. Abel’s greatest pride was his son – not only in his work ethic and accomplishments, but in the devoted husband and father he became.
Abel was a man who found his greatest joy in family, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, Herminia “Mina,” Calib, and Trinity, whose presence always made his eyes sparkle with joy. Known for his kindness and generosity, Abel had a heart so big he would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He was an encourager, always reminding others to never give up, even in the face of life’s challenges. With a playful sense of humor, a love for music, and a special joy in singing along with mariachis, Abel brought light to every room he entered.
Abel’s lifelong passion for golf led him, along with fellow golfers, to establish the Texas Chapter of the Mexican American Golf Association (MAGA) in 1974. His dedication was unmatched—he served as president repeatedly to ensure the organization’s legacy endured. To many, Abel was MAGA. His love for the game was so strong that he chose his final resting place next to a golf course.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro and Herminia Perez; and his brothers, Alex and Jerry Perez. He is survived by his beloved wife Rebecca “Becky” Perez; son Abel Perez Jr. (Melody); grandchildren, Herminia “Mina,” Calib, and Trinity; and his siblings, Estela Ayala, Edward Perez, and Robert Perez.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Joseph Perez, Eddy Perez, Jimmy Ayala, Ryan Castorena, David Silva, and Danny Silva. Honorary pallbearer is Calib Perez.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Abel’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Abel left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His love, laughter, and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
