Abel was born to Seferino and Modesta Garcia on February 18, 1935 in Wharton, Texas.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was active in the Catholic church, early on, and was a member of Catholic Young Adults. He was very social and enjoyed being involved in Club Verde Mar as a young adult as well. He was an excellent dancer and always enjoyed a good mariachi band.
Abel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Education and Spanish, from the University of St.Thomas in Houston, Texas. His desire to teach brought him to St. Cecilia Catholic School in Houston. Where he taught history and Spanish. He loved the Lord and the Catholic faith and taught CCE classes in his spare time. Abel was led to switch careers and worked for ExxonMobil for 34 years as a Marketing Representative and, later, as a Fuel/Pricing Analyst.
Abel cherished his family. Coming from a large family with 10 siblings, it was a priority for him to keep everyone connected. He had 46 nieces and nephews and he valued having a personal relationship with each one. He inspired them to pursue their dreams, finish school and attend college. He took on the daunting task of creating an extensive family tree, which he documented and updated on a regular basis. Abel was a wonderful father to his 3 children. He loved his 6 grandchildren and great grandchild. He was excited for a new grandbaby on the way.
Abel treasured his relationships with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed connecting with many in his community at his favorite local spots, EJ’s and Eva’s Mexican Restaurant.
One of Abel’s favorite quotes, which summarizes his love for family and friends, is:
“What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life - to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories.” - George Eliot -
Abel is preceded in death by his parents, Seferino and Modesta Garcia and his siblings, Eucebio, Octaviano, Andres, Elvira, Trinidad, Gregorio and Catalina.
