Abraham Williams

Abraham Williams was born on January 16, 1920. He was the 6th of 7 children born to Albert "Sip" Williams and Willie Mae Gathron-Williams in Calvert, Texas. Abraham accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. In 1942, at the age of 22, Abe enlisted in the US Army where he was honorably discharged, having attained the final ranking of Staff Sargent. During his service, Abe was awarded 3 battle stars with the final one being for Okinawa, Japan. (The American Theater Campaign medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with 1 bronze star, a good conduct medal,a victory ribbon, 1 service stripe and 5 overseas service bars). Anyone who has ever had a conversation with dad knew exctly how proud he was to serve in this country's military. Upon discharge from the Army in 1946, Abe traveled along the Pacific coast. While in Seattle, Washington, he met Winnie Mae Allen while she was working for Boeing Aircraft. After convincing her to move to Texas, Abraham Williams and Winnie Mae Allen were married in 1950. Abraham is preceded in death by his parents; Albert "Sip" Williams (1956) & Willie Mae Williams (1959); his wife, Winnie Mae Williams (1976); Four brothers: James "Buddy" Preston Williams, F.L. "Rosey" Williams, Jerry C. Williams (1978) & Clemmie Williams (1979). Two sisters: Alma Lee (1975) & Jessie Mae Williams Dairy (1996) and niece, JoAnn "Sally" Williams Denkins (2005). Abraham departed this life at 4:00am on Sunday, May 13, 2012 and is survived by one daughter, Brenda Ann Williams and one god-daughter, Thelma Elaine Adams and special friends Keith and Angela Jones (all of Houston, Texas). Beloved nieces; Opal Jean Humphrey of Orlando, Florida; Stella Mae Thompson of Denver, Colorado and Clara Williams of Austin, Texas and a host of of other nieces, nephews, family, friends and neighbors. Although Abraham is in a much better place, he will truly be missed by the countless lives he touched in his 92 years on earth. We all loved him, but God loved him best..... Rest In Peace, Daddy!
