On July 4, 1920 in Glencoe, LA, a son was born to Joseph Lewis and Bertha Johnson Lewis. The family moved to Houston, Texas when he was 1 year old. He attended Gregory School in the Houston Independent School District and he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. A.C. accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Good Hope Church which was then located in Fourth Ward. After graduation, and before his military service, he married Mercedes Jones. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. God allowed him to go on a journey which involved traveling to three continents. A.C. married Thelma Sentel in 1947. She preceded him in death. He retired from the United States Postal Service where he worked as a letter carrier for many years. A.C. was a consistent, devoted servant of God. For years he was the pastor of Christian Evangelist Church. He served as the pastor of the Shelby Street location of the Church of the Living God (C.W.F.F.). Later in life his membership at Living Word Fellowship brought him joy and new friendships. He offered encouragement to many. He could always be counted on to lend a hand if needed. He was determined to help others as long as he was "on top of the ground". On Tuesday morning, October 20, 2015, A.C. heeded the call of his Heavenly Father and transitioned into the everlasting life which he was promised and deserved. He leaves to cherish his memories his children; Elaine Charles, A.C. Lewis Jr., (Thelma), Mary Linda Lewis, Rev. Lee Andrew Lewis of Roanoke, Virginia (Annette), Delores Moore, and Karen Lewis; Step-son Edwin Sentel of Palm Springs, CA; 2 special nephews; Clifton and Gregory Cormier; 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren along with a host of relatives and friends.
