Addie Mae Mayes-Dorsey, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the age of 104 in Bryan, Texas. She was born August 09, 1916 in Barker, Texas to William Gordon and Minnie Lorena Tyler Mayes. Addie Mae was the eldest of 11 children.
Addie grew up in Richmond, Texas, and graduated from Richmond High School. After graduating, she attended Massey Business School in Houston, and worked at the County Courthouse in Richmond. She married Ivan Carl Dorsey in 1936, and had two children, Richard Carl Dorsey and Lois Lorene Dorsey. During World War II, she lived in the Heights beside her family, and worked as a secretary for a firm at the M&M Building in downtown Houston. When World War II ended, and Ivan returned from the war, they moved to the Spring Branch area just West of Houston where she and Ivan raised their family. Addie was a homemaker, and supported my brother and me through the years in all our school activities such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Spring Branch Band, and the rest of our adult lives. After her children were grown, she worked with Ivan in their construction company, Dorsey Construction. After retiring, they moved to their ranch in Iola, Texas, where they built their home. She lived there after Ivan passed away in 1985, and moved to CHI St. Joseph’s Manor in Bryan, Texas in June of 2018.
Addie Mae was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Carl Dorsey in 1985.She was the eldest of 11 children, and was predeceased by her 10 siblings, and 5 nieces and nephews. Survived by her son, Richard Carl Dorsey and Wife Elaine, and daughter, Lois Lorene Dorsey-Cramer. Grandchildren, Kent Cramer and wife, Lisa, Hilary Dorsey Opheim and husband, Scott, and Paul Dorsey. Great Grandchildren, Carl Cramer, Katherine Cramer-Moody, and Brena and Clara Dorsey, Great-Great Granddaughter, Charlotte Mae Moody.
Family and friends will gather and share memories during a visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where services, led by Dr. Rick Ward-Harder, will begin at 2:00 p.m. Graveside services and interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, also in Houston.
