Sister Addie Lee Young was born on October 13, 1916 in New Waverly, Texas to Jimmie (Sr.) and Elnora Perry Lincoln. She was the second oldest of eight children. She confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Sister Young attended school in New Waverly. She became the surrogate mother to her siblings after the death of her mother. In 1939, she met and married Joseph Carold Young, Sr. the newlyweds moved to Huntsville, Texas to begin a wonderful life together. They moved to Houston, Texas in 1942. To this union, six children were born. After moving to Houston, Sister Young united with Fifth Ward Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Reverend D. C. Mitchell. She was one of the founding members. Sister Young was a devoted housewife and a licensed cosmetologist. Her favorite pastime was traveling throughout the United States and abroad While her husband was alive. She also loved the art of Cooking and attending to the needs of her grandchildren. Sister Young was a longstanding member of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES), Prince Hall Chapter; Queen of the South and the Amaranth. Sister Addie Young returned to the loving arms of God on March 18, 2013.She was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings; her husband,Joseph Carold Young, Sr.; two sons, Joseph, Jr. and Charles Edward; and a daughter, Loretta Glover. She leaves, to cherish her memory: three daughters, Otha Young-White of Omaha, Nebraska, Joyce Lofton of Elk Grove, California and Vivian Grimes (Ellis) of Houston, Texas. Her legacy also includes fifteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Artense Grimes, and a brother, Jimmie Lincoln, Jr., both of Houston, Texas; two honorary grand-sons, Minister Timothy Criswell of Houston, Texas and Gregory Turner of Seattle, Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
