Alan Louis Barth

December 28, 1915March 23, 2013

Alan Louis Barth passed away in Provo, Utah, on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the age of 97.

Born in Kirkland, Washington on December 28, 1915, Alan was the third of four children born to Harry and Frances Barth. He married Virginia Ellen Smith of Hoquiam, Washington, on December 5, 1941 in Seattle, Washington, two days before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Great Falls, Montana, where Alan worked for the Milwaukee Railroad Company until the escalation of World War II. During the war, he proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps with stations in the Pacific.

Shortly after the war the family moved to Billings, Montana and Alan worked for the Carter Oil Company, which later became part of Exxon. His work took him from Billings to Denver, to Tulsa and finally Houston. Alan retired from Exxon in 1981. He and Virginia found great pleasure traveling in their motorhome to Alaska and often landing in the state of Washington to visit their two children and nine grandchildren.

Virginia passed away December 30, 2002, in Houston. After her death, Al moved to Orem, Utah, to be near family. While living in retirement, he met Sylvia Neuhauser, they were both 93. Al and Sylvia enjoyed each other's companionship. Together, with walkers in hand, they strolled through the halls of the retirement center.

Al is survived by son, Robert Barth and wife Beth of Renton, Washington, daughter, Mary and husband Neil Davenport, of Spanish Fork, Utah, and his nine grandchildren who will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his older brother, Lawrence Barth, of Seattle, Washington, and dear companion Sylvia Neuhauser, of Provo, Utah. Al’s sister, Frances, and brother, Harry, preceded him in death.

The family gathered for a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, in the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston, where full military honors were provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars District #4 Honor Guard, and a beautiful time of sharing memories by the family.
