He attended public schools in New Iberia, Louisiana and in 1952 joined the United States Army Infantry Unit. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. In May 1955 Alfred married Rose Broussard. They had three children: Alfred James, Johnny Jerome and Veronica Lynn. They divorced in 1971. He later married Carol Ann Edmonds in 1974. They divorced in 1993 and there were no children in this union.
Alfred commenced the relationship of becoming a Jehovah’s Witness in 1974 and remained so until his death. Being a Jehovah’s Witness was paramount in all aspects of his life, letting everyone know who Jehovah is.
He enjoyed reading his Bible and playing with his Train set with grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents - Linzy and Louisiana Beals; nine brothers – Albert, Wilbert, David, Joseph, Sam, Harold, Edward, Henry and Linzy, Jr.; and by four sisters – Lydia B. Vallere, Priscilla B. Lockett, Dollie B. Provost and Earline Beals.
He is survived by three children – Alfred (Skip) James, Johnny Jerome and Veronica Lynn; and by three grandchildren – Megan Lynnette, James Edward and Michael Dwayne; and by a host of nieces and nephews.
