Alva Lee Doherty Kerstukos of Houston passed away peacefully on July 3, 2022 surrounded by several family members. Alva was born on December 2, 1927, in Bremond, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister, her husband of 71 years, Joseph B. Kerstukos, and her son, Joseph Kerstukos, Jr.
Alva is survived by her daughters, Adele Ann McKibben and Saundra Lynn Przybyla and her husband, Jeff Przybyla. Alva had eight grandchildren: Rhonda Marsh and husband Raymond, Veronica Bradley and husband Tony, Norri McKibben, Pete McKibben, Jennifer Mohr and husband, Jimmy, Alan Przybyla and wife, Sarah, Greg Przybyla and wife, Marianna, and Jill Vashaw. She had numerous great and great-great grandchildren that she dearly loved.
.
Alva was a long-time member of St. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church and volunteered her time for the school. While in her fifties, Alva enrolled in nursing school and received her RN designation and worked in various hospital emergency rooms until she retired. She was very proud of this accomplishment.
After retirement, Alva loved to travel with Joe in her Winnebago throughout the US and visited Mexico often to see friends she had made during their trips there. She was an avid painter and left many of her paintings and drawings for her family to cherish.
Alva loved spending time with her family and her two dogs. She was always up for a party and loved attending the Elvis impersonator events. She had a wicked sense of humor that she maintained until the very end, and seemed to have a quirky little comeback or funny expression for just about anything.
Alva loved praying the Rosary with Mother Angelica on TV, her favorite nun. She was a devout Catholic her whole life and missed being able to attend mass. When she wasn't watching EWTN, she loved watching the Astros, and admitted that she "might" have a little crush on a few of them.
Services will be held at the Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home at 13102 North Freeway, 77060 on Monday, July 11 at 11 am. Interment will be at Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 12 at 11 am.
