Amia accepted Christ at the age of 13 under the leadership of Bro. Larry Fletcher Sr. at the Andover Church of Christ. Later in life, she became a dedicated member of the Bellfort Church of Christ, led by Bro. James Glenn, where she lovingly served as a Wednesday night Bible school teacher in her earlier years.
A proud Houstonian, Amia was educated in the Houston Independent School District, attending Horn Elementary, Johnston Middle School, and Westbury Senior High School, before continuing her studies at Houston Community College.
Professionally, Amia was known for her compassion, dedication, and leadership. She served as Clinic Manager at Memorial Hermann Hospital and previously worked alongside Dr. Robert Arkus for over 18 years, as well as part-time with Dr. Gerald Bush. She maintained close relationships with both doctors, a testament to her loyalty and the warmth she brought to her workplace.
Family was the heartbeat of Amia’s life. One of her most cherished roles was hosting the family’s annual Thanksgiving celebration, a tradition she inherited from her mother and carried on with heartfelt joy after purchasing her own home.
Amia had a vibrant personality and a passion for life. A devoted sports fan, she cheered fervently for Andre Johnson of the Houston Texans and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors. Her love for travel took her to beautiful places such as Canada, Saint Lucia, Turks and Caicos, and other Caribbean destinations. At home, she found joy in baking cookies, reading, and sharing meals and memories with loved ones.
Her greatest joy, however, was her children—her pride and joy, her guiding light, and her most treasured accomplishment. She is survived by her four beloved children: Madison Elaine Dunlap (21), Eugene Carrington Dunlap (20), Brandon Demond Brown (16), and Brent Desmond Boatner (6). Amia loved her children with a fierce, unwavering devotion and took immense pride in their lives.
She is also survived by her loving sister, Cecelia Marie McKinney; her mother, Carla Elaine Harrison; her stepfather, Warren P. Harrison; her maternal grandmother, Marilyn M. Williams; three aunts, four uncles, two great-uncles, one great-aunt, a host of cousins, and many dear friends.
Amia was preceded in death by her father, Gene Carrington McKinney; her paternal grandparents, Sylvester and Pauline McKinney; and her maternal grandfather, U.S. Williams.
Her love, strength, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
