Coach Rice was a man of faith in the Lord and always dressed very well.Sorry to hear of his passing.

Today I sign on behalf of my uncle, Homer Jones who went to college with Mr. Rice and played in NFL during the same time frame.

Our prayers are with the family and friends now and beyond that they secure peace and understanding during this difficult time. God speed.

Rest in peace my brother from Jackie Robinson. Oakland Texas. AKA Super Jake I DJ at your clubs in Gonzales and Wealder and always listen to you on your radio station. You will be greatly missed. 

Coach Rice will be missed for his generosity, his mentorship, his willingness to listen and most of all, his laugh.

Andy was such a unique individual.  Unbelievably  kind hearted, respected and a great teacher and coach.  When I think of Andy, I can not help but smile and think of my 15 years with him at Aldine.

He will be miss. I learned a lot from him.

I echo so many good things said about Andy Rice but what I remember most is his infectious laugh. There would be something that might happen that wouldn't be that funny but I would crack up simply because Andy was laughing. He had a heart as big as Dallas and I was honored to be able to work with him and it was a privilege to call him my friend.

Our thoughts and prayers goes out to the family of Andy Rice. The last time I saw him my brother and I were visiting a church and he was there. I reminded him that he use to DJ at my grandparents club in Shiner, TX back in the 70's.

But as exciting as Andy's pro career and two Super Bowl rings are, Wikipedia's entry misses the most important part as it pertains to those of us who knew him as a coach at Aldine. Andy's influence on so many youngsters he coached at Aldine High School for I don't know how many decades was remarkable, including -- but far from limited to -- the 1990 Aldine High team that won not only the State Championship but also ESPN's National High School Championship. It would be impossible to exaggerate the number of young Aldine football players Andy mentored. He was a major force in keeping so many of them in school and graduating to go on and lead very successful lives. Bill and I are so glad he came into our lives. He will be terribly missed. Thank you for being my friend during our years of coaching together, in basketball, while at Aldine. You took care of me, along with so so many others. You were a great man with a huge heart. The world will miss you. I hope that I will see you again.
