Anita "Mimi" Torres was born to Anita and Fred DeLaO on December 18, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas. She was raised in Texas City and was a survivor of the Texas City explosion. After the explosion, her family moved to Houston where she attended and graduated from Milby High School. She became the first employee in Ford Motor Credit’s Houston office, and she continued her career there for 30 years; after retiring, she went back and worked another 10 years part-time until the branch closed. For those who knew her well, she could not stay idle and started working part-time at Neuhaus Education Center.
She met Elias Ramirez in high school, and they were married shortly after graduation. After 25 years they divorced but remained good friends. She met Eloy Torres through friends, and they have been happily married for 41 years.
She cherished her family, both immediate and extended, and always was willing to go above and beyond to make you feel happy. She had an open-door policy, making anyone within feel like a part of the family, which always included her cooking delicious food to share. She was generous to those in need and was known for opening her home to people stranded in her driveway during Houston’s many floods and storms.
Anita was surrounded by loved ones when she was called Home, and they will all continue to honor her legacy to the fullest.
She is preceded in death by parents Anita and Fred DeLaO, daughters Linda Ann and Lydia Ann Ramirez, stepson Hector Torres, and granddaughter Andrea Ramirez. Anita is remembered by her husband Eloy Torres, daughter Rebecca Crawford, stepdaughter Susie (Jesse) Avila and stepson Daniel Torres, sister Dolores “Lallie” (John) Moreno, grandchildren Erin (Garrett) Troff, Jamie (Will) Porter, Jesse “JJ” Avila, Jr., Gabriel Avila, great-grandchildren Robyn Troff, William “Fritz” Troff, and Henry Porter , niece Kimberly “Kimminee” Moreno, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was a caring mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, staying strong until the end and was ready to be with our Lord and Savior. Promised by God, she has a home in Heaven.
Visitation and Services at Forest Park Lawndale will be for Immediate family only.
