Atanacio “Curly” Olivarez Jr, 81, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to us all, left us to be with Out Lord on October 28th, 2020. He now joins his late wife of 54 years, Mary Diaz Olivarez, who passed away on May 23, 2013.
Atanacio was born on December 10th, 1938 in Houston, TX. to Atanacio Olivarez Sr. and Delia Gutierrez. At the age of 18 Atanacio was married to Mary Diaz, they were married for 54 years until her passing. Atanacio was a very talented automobile body man/painter. He also owned and worked in a restaurant and store with his wife in and around the neighborhood they lived in. Atanacio devoted his time to his faith and was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Throughout the years of practicing his faith He and Mary would sponsor a young girl through the Cristian Foundation for Children and Aging. Atanacio’s interest included occasionally casino trips and spending as much time as possible with his ever-growing family. He is survived by his son Matthew Olivarez, his daughter and spouse Anna & Robert Lucio, 3 grandsons, Matthew Olivarez, Sebastian Olivarez, and Joseph Nunez, 2 granddaughters, Samantha Diaz-Olivarez and Maya Ramirez, 5 great-grandchildren, Adrian Olivarez, Vicente Olivarez, Dillan Olivarez, Jorge Nunez and Liliana Mary Olivarez. And his brothers and sisters, Willie Olivarez, Joe Olivarez, Mercy Olivarez, Delia Casas, Mary-Helen Rodriguez and Irene Gonzalez, and many nieces and nephews.
