Barbara Elizabeth Szymanski Macejewski, 92, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2021 at home in Houston with family and prayers at her bedside. Barbara was born on September 8, 1928 on a farm near Chappell Hill, Texas to Martin Szymanski and Valentina Murski Szymanski. The family moved to Richmond, Texas when Barbara was an infant and soon afterward moved to Houston. Barbara married Pete Macejewski on February 23, 1946 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Houston. They proudly raised six children, attended Assumption Catholic Church and were married 53 years before Pete’s death on March 15, 1999. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Pete, brothers Martin (Junior), Theodore (Putt), Bernard (Benny), John, Edmond, Clement (Clem) and sisters Gertrude Snow, Annie Pavloski, Rose Hidalgo, Cecelia Schillaci, Frances Lucas, Mary Cashiola, Genevieve (Effie) Amalfi. She is survived by: daughter, Barbara Lee and husband Calvin; sons, John and wife Glenice, Martin and wife Linn, Larry and wife Nina, Pete Jr., Garry and wife Marianne; grandchildren, Tracey Moore and husband Marc, Jennifer Walters and husband Ryan, James Stevenson and wife Shenna, Katie Wood and husband Chuck, Madison Macejewski, Brinn Torans and husband Jacob, Dustin (Dusty) Macejewski, Darlena Macejewski, Peter Macejewski and wife Courtney, Kristen Rino and husband Camren, Ross Ellison and wife Lauren, Paul Macejewski, Teresa Callegari and husband Michael, Stephanie Macejewski; great grandchildren, Hunter Martin, Jonathon Martin, Ian Satterfield, Colton Walters, Dani Stevenson, Charlie Wood, Jameson Wood, Taylor Birdsong, Katelyn Macejewski, Peyton Macejewski, Ryanne Ellison, Tinsley Ellison, Claire Callegari, Andrew Callegari. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Graziani, sister-in-laws Peggy Szymanski, Mary Anne Szymanski, Elizabeth Grochett and numerous nieces and nephews. Raising six children naturally meant a lot of cooking and cleaning, but Mom always looked gorgeous with flawless make-up and every hair perfectly styled. She was blessed with creative talents of gardening, crocheting and painting on canvas. Mom had such a green thumb that she could make any plant thrive. She loved all kinds of flowers and green foliage. She especially enjoyed the beautiful azaleas that she nurtured at all three houses of her adult life – raising the family on Rittenhouse in Houston, retirement living on Lake Livingston and her home as a widow on Ashford Meadow in Houston. It was amazing how quickly she could crochet an afghan or a doily and fascinating that she could paint a large canvas piece from a small photograph. Many of her paintings are Texas rural landscapes with, of course, pretty bluebonnets dotting the hillsides. We are comforted to think about Mom and Dad together again now in heaven. Dad is probably fishing, hunting and expanding his vegetable garden while Mom is probably admiring her azaleas which would be blooming right at this time of the year. We thank God for Mom and Dad and may God’s blessings be with all of us.

Wow, what a life. Look at the legacy she gave this world. I am proud that she was my Aunt. The Szymanski’s from Chappell Hill have truly made a mark in this world. My family extends our condolences to Aunt Barbara’s children. You have quite a mom.
