

Barbara Theresa Smith, 92, of Bellville, Texas, passed away on January 18, 2026. Born on November 19, 1933, to Ivan and Eva (Richard') Schulin in the Parish of Orleans, Barbara attended Christ The King Catholic School. She was a devoted member of The Assumption Catholic Church in Houston, Texas.
Barbara lived a full and joyful life defined by kindness, connection, and endless care for others. On August 20, 1955, she married the love of her life, Carlton Randolph Smith (Air Force). Their marriage was a remarkable partnership that spanned 66 years, filled with shared adventures, laughter, and devotion. Together, they embraced life's journeys, riding motorcycles, spending family time in San Saba, and participating in camping clubs, which allowed them many traveling adventures in Texas. One of their main adventures was building a home from scratch in Buffalo, Texas, and spending time at the Deer Camp in Llano, Texas. Barbara and Carlton also volunteered, supporting the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of America.
Barbara enjoyed her senior living residence, making many new friendships, and caring for and guiding others along the way. She played a vital role in the social fabric of her assisted living facility, where she was classified as the "informal Leader" and was the go-to person. She loved to sing with Tony Mac, make homemade treats, and participate in bingo, arts, and crafts.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Eva Schulin, her sister Jacquelyn Wolfe, and her brothers Johnny Schulin and Warren Schulin.
She is survived by her brother Ivan Schulin (Liz), nephews Bobby Joe Schulin, John Wolfe (Cherie), Phillip Vargas (Laurinda), grand nieces and nephews, along with many extended family members, including Patty "Shay" Miller (Mike), Donny Shay (Melissa), and Danny Shay (Debbie).
Barbara will truly be missed by many. She enjoyed a very long, fulfilled life and is now with Carlton, growing the garden he prepared for her in Heaven.
Visitation will be held at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060, on January 29, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Committal will take place at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
