Bashem Coorg

December 17, 1939March 12, 2020

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, Bashem S. Coorg, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years old. Bashem was born December 17, 1939 in Bangalore, India. He completed a Masters in Engineering at Syracuse University and soon after married the love of his life, Jaya. His life was blessed with travel, adventure, friends and family. Some of his biggest joys were his children, IBM, and his video camera which he always kept handy to record the best memories. He was also extraordinarily humble. Bashem is preceded in death by his father, Sampath Iyengar, mother, Padma, step-mother Sharadha, and our family dog, Hershey. He is survived by his wife Jaya, daughter Rohini, son Vasanth, daughter-in-law Erin, grandchildren, bothers, sister, and in-laws. In lieu of flowers, please give a big hug to all of your loved ones and keep smiling in his honor.

We are shocked and devastated by the loss. Uncle Bashu was so kindhearted and loving. I have some great memories of spending time with him at his house, enjoying his amazing Indian food, and celebrating family time together. When I got engaged, he was the first to call and wish us. Lots of love to Jaya Aunty, Vasanth, Erin, and Rohini. Until we meet again. โค๏ธ

Veena and I have fond memories of visiting Bashem Uncle and Jaya akka during our stay in Austin, TX. We would always be welcomed into their home in RoundRock with a bright smile. It would always be a pleasure spending time with them and playing with Hershey. Bashem Uncle and Jaya akka were very proud of how Vasanth and Rohini grew up to become excellent and accomplished individuals. We will always remember the first Thanksgiving dinner that we we had with Bashem Uncle and Jaya akka. Veena, Anirudh, and I would pray for his soul to rest in peace ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Those special memories of you will always bring a smile if only I could have you back for just a little while ! Then we could sit and talk again just like we used to do !! You always meant so very much and always will do too !!! The fact that you're no longer here will always cause me pain but you're forever in my heart UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN !!!!

Bashu Tata was one of the most greatest grand-uncles ever. I knew him since my childhood and I celebrated my 5th birthday with him at his house. After that, I met him in Berlin a year later. Recently , in last yearโ€™s August, he came to my house with Jaya Pati and Rohini to stay as guests when Vasanth, Erin, and Kiran were visiting along with Kiranโ€™s younger brother, Tej. The last time I saw him was on his 80th birthday last December where this photo is taken . What I liked about Bashu Tata the most was he liked my LEGOs and my creativity.

We still can't believe this. Lots of memories to cherish. I'm fortunate to have spent my birthday with you in Bangalore this year. Your personality, your voice, your smile - we'll miss you a lot. May your soul rest in peace uncle. Lots of love to Jaya aunt, Rohini and Vasanth.

This is indeed shocking and hard to digest. We met Bashu uncle very recently during his 80th birthday, the last christmas and could spend some time with his family and children. I remember the great time I had last summer trip when I drove down to Austin and spent a day with him. We spoke about all varied topics from food, politics, culture and everything. From my interaction he was an enjoyable company, very concerned and joyfull person. Our deep condolences to Jaya Aunty, Vasanth, Erin and Rohini. I am sure time will act as a healer and we all can derive strength to overcome his absence. As part of his extended family we also share the sorrow and our heartfelt condolence to Bashu uncle brothers and his dear sister Rama.
