On Friday, March 7, 2021, Bazil Burgess loving father of five and grandfather of three passed away at the age of 78. Bazil was born on December 23, 1942 in Houma Louisiana to Warren and Evela (Navarre) Burgess. In 1964 he joined the U.S Army, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1967 at the rank of sergeant. Bazil received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1970. While at LSU he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He spent 41 years in the oil and gas industry before retiring from ExxonMobil Chalmette Refinery in 2011. In 1994, Bazil earned the BP Refining Department Innovation Award for improving the efficiency of the flow of crude oil during the refining process.
Bazil married Barbara Jane Brehmer in Bamburg, Germany on August 14,1965. Together they raised their children primarily in Clear Lake area south of Houston and later Lima, Ohio. He was the proud father of two sons, Warren and Carl and three daughters, Rebecca, Charlotte and Kristina. He was an amazing PawPaw to Justin, Nathan and Wyatt. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid reader and skilled bridge player. He loved the rock music of the 50’s. Bazil was known to cook up some delicious Cajun food when the mood struck him. He was quick with a joke and a tease and always a sweet word for the ladies.
Bazil was preceded in death by his parents, mother of his children, Barbara Jane Brehmer and daughter, Charlotte. He is survived by his children, Warren, Rebecca, Kristina, Carl and his wife Michelle, his three grandsons, Justin, Nathan and Wyatt, and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held on May 14, 2021 at 3 pm at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston Texas. Bazil will be laid to rest at Houston National Cemetery in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
