Bernice Reeves Nicastro went to be with the Lord at age 93 on January 31, 2025 in Athens, TX. Bernice was born on November 11, 1931 to Wayne Reeves and Avis Gault Reeves in Aldine, TX.
"Bee" was known for her kindness and compassion for everyone she met, and she kept a strong faith in God throughout her life. She grew up in Aldine on one of the last large dairy farms in Houston. When Bee was 7 her mother passed away. She, her sister and brother began working on her father's farm, herding and milking cows as their main priority. She graduated from Aldine High School, where she participated in journalism and played the cymbals in the band. She also enjoyed many social activities. After her father died when she was 19, Bee helped support her brother in college. She worked for the Continental Insurance Company in downtown Houston for 5 years. Then she met and married her husband Sam in 1956 and they moved to Monroe, Louisiana where they had their 4 children. They returned to Texas in 1966 and raised their family in Beaumont and Dallas, Texas, putting all 4 children through college. Bee was very involved in school and church activities supporting her children in band, sports, choirs, PTA and various other events. She enjoyed and excelled at golf and bowling. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, cooking, gardening, beekeeping and painting. She also loved watching football, basketball and hummingbirds. She enjoyed showing off around town in her sporty convertible and listening to Neil Diamond. After Sam died in 2000, she moved to Austin for 10 years then to Athens, Texas for a slower-paced life near the lake with new friends.
Bee is survived by her children Jess (Lori) Nicastro, Rita Nicastro (Todd) Garrett, Arleen Nicastro and Mike Nicastro. She was blessed by her grandchildren Scott (Amanda) Garrett, Brent (Riley) Garrett, Jack Nicastro (fiancee Angela) and Jensen Nicastro, and by her great-grandchildren James, Audrey, Ethan, Millie and Amos, Eli, Abby, Leah. She was preceded in death by her son Samuel Nicastro III, her husband Samuel Nicastro Jr, her sister Evelyn Reeves Romund and her brother Edgar Reeves.
A graveside service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
