Bertha attended public schools in Fort Worth, Texas and Galveston, Texas, earning her high school diploma. Bertha moved to Houston, Texas where she met and married the “Love” of her “Life”, Julius O. Wilkins. Bertha and Julius were blessed with four daughters and three sons. Bertha continued her journey, seeking a better life by receiving a certificate as a Nursing Assistant.
Bertha retired from Hermann Hospital with 27 years of service. Bertha was dedicated to providing baked goods, pastries and more during her tenure at Hermann Hospital, a co-workers hamburger stand and many individuals requested her baked goods.
Bertha has been a Christian since childhood, where she confessed Christ while living in Fort Worth, Texas. Bertha joined Concord Missionary Baptist Church in 1952. She served on many committees in her 65 plus years of tenure until her failing health. Bertha served on the following: Secretary of the Choir, Mission Sister, Vice President of Darcus Circle, Vice President of Mission, Banquet Head Chef, and Vacation Bible School Teacher. Sister Bertha Lee Wilkins always had a passion for her church and children. She remained a faithful and devoted member, praising and serving the Lord. Bertha also continued to follow Psalms 119:30 and Psalms 23. Sister Bertha Lee Wilkins: An Honoree of Concord Missionary Baptist Church 100th Anniversary in 2017.
Bertha leaves to forever cherish her memory seven children: Sandra (Edward), Faye, Theresa, Larry (Keitha), Robert, Julius Jr., and Lola (David), 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Theresa Brooks and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Julius Odell Wilkins Sr. and four brothers.
