

As Sister Jerry slept in the arms of Jesus, the gentle cares of our Saviors voice whispered, “My daughter we’re going home now”. Sister Jerry made her peace with God and obeyed the voice of Jesus. Hand in hand, father and daughter they return to the great beyond at the age of 83 on March 28, 2022 at Heaven Sent Residential Assisted Living Facility, Houston Texas.
Betty Jerry was born on December 5, 1938 in Lake City, FL until an early age. She moved to Buffalo, NY and continued her education. She was the youngest of six siblings of George H Williamson, Sr. and Vera Lee Alexander, two half brothers (Edward Green and Abraham Williamson). All preceded her in death. Betty J Jerry graduated from Bennett High School, Buffalo, NY. She dedicated her life to promises to God at an early age which served as the path of righteousness throughout the course of her life.
Sister Jerry was united in marriage to Artis Jerry on December 12,1959. They were the proud parents of two daughters, Kimberly Vann and Patricia Jerry (Deceased). Her husband Artis Jerry (Deceased) retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years of service. This enabled Sister Jerry to travel extensively including places such as Athens Greece.
Sister Jerry’s career path was education. She was a Liason between High School parents/students and their respective school for the Spokane Unified School District. She was also a part of the Adult Basic Education/ESL Program for Washington State Community College-Spokane location.
Sister Jerry’s life history and accomplishments are too vast, so just to highlight a few:
In February 1971, she organized and served as the General Chairperson for the First Black History Week Banquet for St. Matthews Baptist Church, Spokane, WA. This was the beginning of the observance of Black History Month. As a result, she was a recipient of the Proclamation issued by then Governor Daniel J. Evans and Spokane’s Mayor David Rodger.
In March of 1984, she had the honor of being the special guest of the National Baptist President, Reverend Dr. James Carl Sams of Jacksonville, FL, where she spoke in the Florida State Convention. She addressed the Prayer Breakfast that opened the Florida State Convention. To her understanding, this was the first time that had taking place in Dr. Sam’s 34 years of serving as their President.
After relocating to Houston, TX, Sister Jerry became active with the National Baptist Convention of America, USA, Inc. She was in attendance at the convention, September 8-12, 2008, Houston. Specifically, active with the Senior Women’s Union. At that event, Sister Jerry was bestowed the honor of a certificate for 25 years of service to the Senior Women’s Ministry Union of the National Baptist Convention of America, USA.
These are just a few accomplishments of Sister Betty Jerry. She was a child of God and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and committed her life to the spreading of the gospel throughout the land proclaiming, that salvation of Jesus Christ can be had by all. She was “AN AMBASSADOR FOR CHRIST”.
She leaves to mourn her death, her daughter, Kimberly Vann, Los Angeles, CA, her loving devoted adopted daughter Karen Crothers(Morris) Chicago, IL, two grandsons Jordan and Daniel Vann, one great-grandson Bryson Daniel Vann, her godson Leslie Lambert, a host of devoted nieces, nephews and friends.
