Billie Sue Grothe

Billie was born in Nacogdoches, Texas to parents Kelly and Mildred Barrett on November 15, 1940. She grew up on the north side of Houston, Texas and attended Sam Houston High School where she met her husband Albert and graduated in June of 1958.

On December 20, 1958, Billie and Albert Grothe were married. She went on to work for Bank of America where she became a Branch Manager and eventually retired at the age of 65. She was a devout mother to her two children Debbie and Kelly. Billie loved to tend to her plants and also loved to travel. She was responsible for so many special family vacation memories that will not be soon forgotten. She knew how to make people laugh, although not always intentionally.

Billie and Albert made Sargent, Texas their permanent home in 2002. They, along with their puppy Lilly Belle, have since spent countless weekends hosting family and friends and making wonderful memories at the bay house. She will be dearly missed.

Billie was preceded in death by her father Kelly Barrett and her Mother Mildred Barrett. She is survived by her husband Albert Grothe; son Kelly Grothe; daughter Debbie Thayer and her husband Tim Thayer; granddaughter Becky Ogrodowicz and her husband Mike Ogrodowicz; grandson Evan Thayer and his wife Stacey Thayer; granddaughter Katherine Pinnell and her husband Jake Pinnell; great grandchildren Savanna Ogrodowicz, Haylyn Lieder, Annie Thayer, David Thayer and James Thayer; sisters Betty Gillory and Cathy Riggs; sisters-in-law Dorothy Kaiser and Gerry Lynch and many other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held at Earthman Resthaven, located at 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060, on January 6, 2026, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

A graveside service will take place at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home & Cemetery, located at the same address, on January 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
