Our beloved Billy Joe Jackson was born on September 26, 1945, in Houston, Texas, to the late Joe Lee and Mary Lee Jackson. From the beginning, Billy’s life was a blessing to those who knew and loved him.
At an early age, Billy accepted Christ and was baptized at Damascus Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend J.D. Taylor. His faith was an important foundation in his life and remained a meaningful part of who he was.
Billy received his education from Harper Elementary/Junior High School and attended Booker T. Washington High School. After high school, he worked for several companies before building a dedicated career at the Kroger Warehouse Co. on Gellhorn Street, where he retired after 33 years of faithful service. His strong
work ethic and commitment were admired by many.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Jackson; four sons, Kevin, Keith, David, and Andre; one grandson, Patrick; five sisters, Donrell, Dorothy, Jody, Gwendolyn, and Linda; and one brother, Ray. Though he endured great loss, the love and memories they shared remained close to his heart.
Billy leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 52 years, Gwendolyn E. Jackson; his children, Taura Spates (Christopher), Arva Dailey, Michael Walker, Demetra Jackson-Curry (Jason), and Tavares Jackson (Chandra); three bonus daughters, Janet Coffee (Lee), Chante Timmons, and Tomekia Larkins; his brother, Arthur Jackson; his grandchildren, Aschlee, Jannika, Terran, Jeven, Jeremy, Tierra, Ma’kala, Shala, Cierra, Tryniti, Jaelyn, Camyrn, and Cai; three great-grandchildren, Armani, Autumn, and Aaliyah; and a beloved great-nephew, Jordyn Grover (Jo-Jo). Billy also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, and neighbors who will forever remember his love, presence, and the special place he held in their lives.
Billy was more than a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend — he was a steady presence, a source of love, and a blessing to our family. We will miss his presence, his strength, and the special way he made those around him feel cared for. Although our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the time, love, and memories God allowed us to share with him. His love will continue to live on in each of us, and he will forever remain in our hearts.
