Bing Chan passed away peacefully at age 90 on September 1, 2016. He was born on September 19, 1925 in Chicago, IL, the 4th son and 7th child of Kung Chan and Yung Shee Chan, who came to the United States from the village of Na Ma Gang, near the town of Haiyanzhen, in Guangdong province, China. During World War II, Bing served for three years in the U.S. Navy as a Torpedoman’s Mate on three different USS vessels in the Pacific theater.
On December 17, 1961, Bing married Mae Jean C’Tol in Houston, TX, and moved there to become a retail grocer for over 30 years. Bing enjoyed watching old western movies, football, baseball and coaching Little League baseball. He loved playing cards and games with his friends, family and grandchildren. In his retirement years, Bing loved to bowl and would spend several days a week at the alley.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mae Jean, their two sons Warren (Mei) and Stewart (Geneva), four grandchildren Benjamin, and Kendall, Meredith and Landon; brother Robert (Edith) Chan and sister Evelyn Waddell; fourteen nieces and nephews: Sharon (Bill), Walter and Linda; Gary (Tauna) and Lisa; Audrey (Matthew) and Melissa (Matthew); Angela, Allison (Tony) and Wai (Vicky); Peter (Sophie), Donald (Karen), Elizabeth (Chris) and Edward (Linda), and their 23 children and three grandsons.
Bing is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Soo Hing Chan and Mabel Fuqua, brothers Jimmo Chan, Nimmo Chan and John Chan, and nephew Russell Chan.
The family takes great joy and comfort knowing that Bing is in a much better place with our Father in heaven. Through the prayers and support from friends and family, Bing came to know the Lord over a year ago.
Visitation: Friday September 9, 2016 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale.
Funeral service: Saturday September 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Chinese Baptist Church in Houston.
