If you knew her, then you knew she loved people and having fun, and Christmas was that time of year that brought it altogether. After one Christmas years ago, she actually left her tree up the entire following year. In the middle of that year, she threw a “halfway-to-Christmas” party that included Christmas sweaters, food, and gifts.
Speaking of food and entertaining, she loved doing the latter, but hated doing the former. Cooking wasn’t her forte. Although, candy, especially peanut brittle...now that was a different story.
Well before she had grandchildren, she loved kids. Packing young girls from Irvington’s youth group into one vehicle, taking treks onto Galveston beach, getting stuck, but laughing all of it off.
And when she finally got grandkids – Brendan, Austin, and Taelor – she made certain to spoil them at every opportunity.
She loved her grandkids. She loved them even more than shoes, which, if you knew her, is almost difficult to imagine, because shoes were sort of her passion. She would often change shoes multiple times in the day. In fact, she really had more shoes than places to wear them.
She didn’t wear shoes to bolster her stature. She just loved shoes. And whatever Brenda lacked in height, she made up for in personality. She was full of personality, which is why it was always so easy to talk to her. She was always ready to smile and laugh.
Yes, Brenda is gone; but much like how she was in life, she would want you to smile and laugh. She would want you to look forward to the fun things in life. She would probably be disappointed in you if you didn’t already have your Christmas tree up.
It is sad to know that Brenda won’t be around anymore to laugh and spoil her grandkids. It is sad to know that there are countless pairs of shoes stuck in a closet. But what is good to know, what does bring joy to your heart is that she is now completely whole. She isn’t suffering through the hardships of a failing body. The joy that she had here on earth is now complete in heaven. Where she is now is better than the best Christmas party. And that in itself is cause to celebrate her life.
