He fought a very hard battle of severe pneumonia, after surviving Covid 19.
Burt always said when he died: “he was going sliding into heaven, all used up and worn out”. If you knew Burt that is exactly how he went.
Burt lived a very full life and loved life to its fullest.
Burt was born on February 1, 1952 and grew up in Fairbanks, Texas.
Burt is now reunited and rejoicing in Heaven with his parents, Elmer Eli and Pauline Edith Koenig and younger brother, Bruce Wayne Koenig.
Burt is survived by his wife, Nancy Buchanan Koenig; children, Burton Doyle Koenig, Jr. and wife, Teresa; Sharmon Koenig Deas and husband, Billy;
Robert Joe Buchanan, Jr. and wife, Melissa; and Shelby Buchanan Vinson.
Burt was also a beloved PawPaw to: Reagan Marie Koenig; Summer Nicole Koenig and Sarah Lucille Deas; sister-in-law Dolores Koenig; nephew Robert Koenig, and niece, Regina Koenig. Plus a large extended family and friends too numerous to count.
Burt did many things in his life from driving heavy haul trucks, working on cranes and in the oil and gas business. After many years at Devon Energy, Burt retired in 2006. But could never totally retire. So in 2006 he started KISS Generators, a successful generator business.
Burt was a member of Fairbanks United Methodist Church, a church that he took great pride in knowing that his family were some of the founders in starting and building the church. Burt and Nancy began attending Cypress Cowboy Church in 2016. This was literally a labor of love for Burt. He loved this church and adored its people.
Burt never met a stranger and was always the biggest personality in the room.
He just had an energy that no one else had or could keep up with.
He loved to dance and always had a joke or story to tell.
He was strong minded, strong willed, but most of all he was kind. He would give you the shirt off of his back, if you needed it.
Burt could make, build or fix anything!! And if he wasn’t sure how to do it, he would do it anyway and make it work.
Burt survived throat cancer in 2000 having been given just a 5% survival rate, but he beat it. In the last few years he has undergone some very serious surgeries due to the throat cancer and radiation used to help him survive at the time. Unfortunately, that made him vulnerable to Covid.
Burt loved God and was never afraid to die.
He always said “I’ve had a good life.”
Recently, Burt had come to rely on this quote:
“I don’t know what my future holds, but I know who holds my future”.
