Calvin W. Mendel, Sr.

Calvin Wallace Mendel, Sr. , age 87, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011 in Houston, TX. Calvin is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Ernest Mendel, Jr. and wife Della and sister-in-law Katherine Mendel. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ethel Marie Mendel; children: Calvin "Butch" Mendel, Jr. and wife Lori, Ricky Mendel and wife Gracie, Debra Harris and husband Mike; grandchildren: Jason Mendel, Philip Mendel, Nicole Francis and husband Mike; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Chloe Mendel, Cole, Kendall and Carter Francis; brothers: Clarence Mendel and wife Dallie, Gene Mendel and wife Joyce, in addition to countless other family and friends. Calvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He was a veteran of Worls War II, an amateur baseball player in the 50's and a retiree of the oil industry having spent 43 years as an employee of Hughes Tool where he began as a shop employee and retired as a plant manager after a successful career. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Wednesday, June 1st at Earthman Resthaven. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2nd at Christ The Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18511 Klein Church Rd., Spring, TX. Rite of Committal will be at Forest Park Lawndale.
