Born on March 15, 1928 to parents Carlota and Thomas Hernandez on a farm near Victoria, Texas, Carlotta was one of fourteen children.
Growing up in Houston, she attended Sam Houston High School. Athletic, she enjoyed playing sports -particularly basketball and volleyball. Carlotta also loved going to dances. She met the love of her life, Raymond “Butch” Hernandez, while still in high school.
After accepting Butch’s invitation to a dance celebrating Mexican Independence Day, they were inseparable. Eloping at a young age, they were happily married for more than sixty years. They went on to have six beloved children: Ray, David, Homer, Arthur, Carlos and their long-awaited daughter, Belinda.
Carlotta spent many years lovingly devoted to caring for her husband, raising her family and babysitting her grandchildren. She had a dark sense of humor and loved horror movies! A life-long Astros fan, Carlotta loved to travel. She enjoyed cross country road trips with Raymond, especially enjoying trips to MLB spring training and major league ballparks. They loved discovering great “finds” at flea markets and playing the slots!
Carlotta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, all of her siblings, and most of her friends. She loved to tease she was “the last of the Mohicans!” She is survived by her children: Ray and wife Molly, David and wife Ione, Homer and wife Heather, Art and wife Rose, Carlos and wife Lisa, Belinda and husband Manuel, as well as many great-great-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The love and passion she had for her family was evident in all she did. Carlotta’s deep love was central to our family and her loss will be felt by all. We are comforted knowing she and Raymond are reunited in love, and dancing…. together forever in heaven.
