I was educated in the Houston public school system where I graduated from Jesse H. Jones High School. My passion was automobiles so naturally my favorite class in high school was auto mechanics. My love for cars and “all things fast” prompted me to purchase a 1957 Chevrolet hot rod. I spent many days and countless hours with my Dad and friends building her engine just the way I wanted it. Needless to say, she didn’t last long. But my love and passion for nice vehicles lived on.
Being taught good work ethics by my parents I started my work life at the tender age of 12 throwing newspapers at the crack of dawn for the Houston Chronicle. I later began to deliver groceries for the neighborhood grocery store, and later became a butcher in the meat department (so now you know why I loved a good steak). After completion of high school, it was time to explore a career path for my adult life. I worked in the mailroom as a mail clerk at several companies so I guess the “mail life” was my destiny. Thanks to one of the deacons at the church who was a letter carrier, I was given the opportunity to apply to and test for the USPS. And as they say, “The rest is history”.
While working at the post office I met the one who would change my life forever, Miss Hazel Miles. I thought I was destined to be a bachelor for life, but she changed my mind and my life and became my wife on July 6, 1993. Thank you for the memories we were able to make during our almost 30 years together as husband and wife.
I was blessed with a son, Tyrone O. Sharp who preceded me in death. He is resting in the heavens with my parents, my brother Fredrick “Freddie Boy” Woodson, my sister Charlotte Faye Edward, and my nephew Michael Edward.
I leave to forever cherish the memories we have made together my wife, Hazel Miles-Woodson and stepson, Adrian Miles; grandson, Andrew Miles; siblings Sheryl Woodson-Jones and Carolyn Elaine Woodson-Johnson (Climmie); sister-in-laws Beverly Wallace (Melvin), Sharon Love (Rickey), and Arketa Rice (James); brother-in-law Eura C. Miles, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
~May the legacy live on~
