Carroll Lee Blunt was born to Reynolds & Fern Blunt on September 30th, 1944, at Heights Hospital in Houston, Texas. He attended Garden Oaks Elementary School, Black Jr High and Waltrip High School.
Known to his loved ones as Collie, the nickname was born out of the difficulty of young Billy Bob unable to pronounce Carroll Lee. A simple struggle turned into decades of a beloved new name.
Collie was a skilled gardener, 30+ year Boy Scout of America, an avid cook, 51 years of union carpenter work, and a devoted husband of 60 years to Joyce “Mermere” Blunt. The perfect day consisted of early mornings spent in the kitchen cooking up homemade biscuits for his Mermere, afternoons in his garden tending to his 5th child, and evenings spent on his recliner feet up stiff drink in hand with his childhood love sitting right next him.
Collie’s life expanded as the years passed by. New life was born into his family creating memories filled with 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 daughters-in-law, and more taking on the family name.
Just like his garden, each season will bring new family stories and additions to continue his legacy. Collie built a strong family foundation giving bloom to all who come after. His memory will always live in the laugh of his junior high love, in the heart of a table filled with Mexican food, in the Springtime as his garden begins to sprout, and in the depth of every good and kind soul that will carry the Blunt name.
A memorial service for Carroll will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston, Texas 77008.
