

To Everything there is a season......Ecclesiastes 3:1-8"A Time to Be Born" --October 25, 1927, Celester Montgomery Greer, Jr., an only child was born to Celester and Evelyn Greer in Houston, Texas"A Time to Plant"--Celester planted many seeds during his lifetime. He was loving, kind, and cared for all whom he met. He spent lots of time talking to, and mentoring young men regarding love, marriage, finances, etc. "A Time to Build Up"--He was a product of the Houston Public School system. he attended Brock Elementary, Harper Middle School and graduated from Booker T. Washington high School in 1945. He attended Texas College in Tyler, Texas for one year before deciding to enlist in the United States Army. He served his country for two years, stationed in Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Belvoir, Virginia, He returned to Houston, enrolled at Texas Southern University under the G.I. Bill of Rights."A Time to Love"--Celester loved our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. But Celester also found another life-time love Dorothy Haynes Greer in October 1949. They were married April 4, 1950. She was 19 years old and he was 22 years old. God then blessed them with two wonderful children to love. "A Time To Work"--Celester was a faithful member of The Community Of Faith Church for over twenty years. He served as a deacon, a member of the King's Men Ministry and on the Community Of Faith church security team. Security was his favorite. He loved his "seat on the wall." He loved his church family. He was the oldest active member of the church, and was "spoiled" by his young deacon brothers. Because of his age and "love ability," he was affectionately known as "Pops" and "Poppa Greer" throughout the church.He started his work career with the Missouri Pacific railroad as a laborer/firebox builder. After five years, he changed jobs and started working for the U.S. Post Office as a mail carrier. He served 25 years before taking a medical retirement. After his retirement, he worked 17 years longer at the Astrodome as a part time ticket taker.?"A Time to Die"?--God called Celester home from labor to rest on Friday, January 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents.?"A Time to Weap"?--Our Eyes are wet with tears, our hearts are broken, and we are sad, but God's sustaining power and comforting love are still with us, and will see us through.?"A Time to Mourn"?--Left in the care of our Lord and savior, Celester leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy; son Gary Greer; daughter, Lynda Wesley (Cleveland); three grandchildren, Stephen Dawson Wesley, Courtney Nicole Wesley, and Taylor Airian Greer; Four nephews, Willie Haynes, Nathaniel Haynes; Eric Haynes, and Elliott Haynes. Also aunts, cousins, friends and all of his Community Of Faith church family.
